It looks like the supposed Manny Pacquiao-Conor McGregor mega fight has to happen first to entice Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face Pacquiao in a rematch.
Pacquiao recently aligned himself with Paradigm Sports Management, the company that handles McGregor's career, fueling speculation that Pacquiao is angling for a lucrative boxing bout with the Irish MMA superstar.
"A fight with McGregor would put pressure on Mayweather to say yes to a rematch. Kasi magkakaroon ng comparison, assuming Pacquiao knocks McGregor out in less than 10 rounds," said veteran fight analyst Dennis Principe.
Mayweather halted McGregor in 10 rounds when they squared off back in 2017.
Principe said he believes that a dominant victory by Pacquiao over the Irish fighter will have fans talking about a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight again.
"Para maging interesting ang Pacquiao-Mayweather 2, something has to happen that will make people realize na nandoon pa rin sa level si Manny Pacquiao, mayroon pa rin siyang chance to win against Mayweather," Principe said.
Pacquiao traded punches with Mayweather in a much hyped bout 2015 but ended up settling for unanimous decision loss.
He has been hoping to get a measure of revenge against the American fighter, even signing with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions which handles Mayweather's fights.
But the Filipino still couldn't get the fight he wanted.
Still, the possible McGregor fight looks to be a good, lucrative alternative to Mayweather.
"They wanted to make Mayweather feel na mayroon pa kaming ibang options aside from you," said Principe.
"They probably want to show that Pacquiao remains to be a marketable fight."
