MANILA -- San Miguel Alab Pilipinas was forced to play without Puerto Rican giant PJ Ramos in their ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) game last Sunday due to suspension.
Fortunately, Alab still had enough firepower to overwhelm the Zhuhai Wolf Warriors, 108-81, at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
Ramos was suspended for a game after incurring his fifth technical foul this season in a previous game against the Wolf Warriors.
It was the second time in 3 games that Ramos had to sit out a match. The other time was when he missed the game against Hong Kong Eastern due to food poisoning. That one led to their 88-83 defeat to Hong Kong.
Naturally, coach Jimmy Alapag was gravely concerned.
The former TNT KaTropa stalwart said he needed to clarify things with the ABL concerning the 5 technical foul rule.
"I hope (he doesn't get suspended again) because technicals can be very subjective to the referees,” he told sports website Spin.
He said thjis can be potentially damaging to their title retention campaign especially if Ramos will be forced to sit out crucial matches.
“Looking ahead to the playoffs, to the best-of-three, that can put a dent on what we're trying to do. So I'll make sure I clarify that soon," said Alapag.
