MANILA, Philippines – Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Tuesday named Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Moala Tautuaa and CJ Perez as the Philippines' "Final Four" players for the FIBA 3x3 Olympic qualifying tournament next month.
The four were selected by SBP, upon the recommendation of the Selection Committee, chaired by executive director Sonny Barrios, with coaches Jong Uichico, Pat Aquino, Ronnie Magsanoc and Eric Altamirano.
Leonard Santillan and Karl Dehesa round up the group as reserves.
Serbian coach Stefan Stojajic and conditioning coach Darko Krsman are overseeing the day-to-day training program of the team.
Munzon and Pasaol are among the top-ranked 3x3 players in the country, while Tautuaa and Perez are part of the Philippine team that won the 3x3 gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games last year.
The team will compete in the FIBA 3x3 Olympic qualifying tournament on March 18-22 in Bengaluru, India. There are 20 confirmed participating teams, divided into four pools of five squads each. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoffs, and the top three teams will qualify to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
"It is an honor for the Philippines to be with the top 20 countries vying for seats at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We ask our countrymen to rally behind our team in its quest to be part of the Olympiad," SBP president Al Panlilio said in a statement.
