MANILA, Philippines – Bianca Pagdanganan will be recognized as the Philippine Sportswriters Association's first ever Miss Golf during its gala night on March 6 at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel.
Pagdanganan, 22, spearheaded the Philippines' two-gold romp in golf in the 30th Southeast Asian Games last December, winning the women's individual event and the women's team event together with Lois Kaye Go.
Pagdanganan was also one of the recipients of the 2018 PSA Athlete of the Year award together with fellow golfers Go and Yuka Saso, Hidilyn Diaz and Margielyn Didal after they won gold medals in the Asian Games in Jakarta.
She also won the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational in Mexico last year.
Pagdanganan attended Gonzaga University and later, the University of Arizona, which she helped win the NCAA Division 1 women's golf championships in the same year.
A sports and society major, Pagdanganan turned pro last year.
Pagdanganan joins Ms. and Mr. Basketball Jack Animam and Thirdy Ravena, Ms. and Mr. Volleyball Sisi Rondina and Bryan Bagunas, and Coach of the Year Pat Aquino as among those to be honored with special awards.
Meanwhile, Team Philippines was the unanimous choice as Athlete of the Year after its superb performance in the SEA Games which saw the country reclaim the overall title for the first time since 2005.
