National team coach Yeng Guiao had to do with just one tune-up game before flying to Qatar on Saturday for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

But Guiao was pleased with the way the national team performed even without naturalized player Andray Blatche. It ditched Meralco, 100-82, a day before their flight.

Blatche missed the tune-up since he has to fulfill his obligation with his mother ballclub Tianjin Gold Lions in China.

"At least, even without Andray, the guys are blending well. We played good defense and we are hoping we can still improve our defense," said Guiao in the PBA website.

RR Pogoy led the way for the nationals with 21 markers. Marcio Lassiter scored 14 points, while June Mar Fajardo and Troy Rosario had 13 and 10, respectively.

Baser Amer, on the other hand, paced Meralco with 14 points. Reynel Hugnatan had 13, while Nico Salva added 12.

Guiao thanked Meralco management for allowing the Bolts to test the nationals in their lone tune-up match.

"We'd like to thank Meralco for making themselves available for our only tune-up games," said Guiao.

Team Pilipinas leaves for Doha, Qatar early Saturday morning and will play against the host on February 21, before flying to Astana, Kazakhstan for its February 24 game.
