The Gilas Pilipinas will have a lengthier preparation for the Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers as FIBA announced on Friday the postponement of the games amid the 2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak plaguing the region.

In a Twitter post of the FIBA Asia Cup, three games will be cancelled until further notice which includeS Gilas' match against Southeast Asian neighbor Thailand on February 20.

Other games cancelled were virus-stricken China against Japan on February 21 and Malaysia's game over Chinese national team on February 24.

Gilas, on the other hand, is making progress in practice despite several changes in its roster for the past weeks.

Interim coach Mark Dickel was pleased with how the squad performed on Tuesday at the Meralco Gym, which saw Rain or Shine's Javee Mocon officially join the 24-man pool.

"We started putting some of our offensive stuff in, which is all new to pretty much everyone. So that was good. Real steps in the right direction," said Dickel, the active consultant of TNT KaTropa in the PBA.

No dates yet for the first window games of the regional qualifying tournament.
