MANILA, Philippines - With less than a week to go before his match against Mexican opponent Fernando Montiel, Filipino bantamweight contender Nonito Donaire Jr. geared up for a sparring session at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada.
For his most recent routine, Donaire underwent 5 rounds of sessions against a younger Randy Caballero.
Caballero, who carries a 9-0 record, is said to emulate Montiel's style.
In the sparring session, Donaire showcased his jab which he will use against the Mexican.
The apparently thrilled "Filipino Flash" also displayed his new boxing shoes, with a Philippine flag printed on it, the boxer will use the pair for the match.
Montiel in Las Vegas
Meanwhile, Montiel, accompanied by one of his brothers, has also arrived in Las Vegas straight from Los Mochis, Mexico.
Montiel said he has primed himself and is stronger, coming from a perfect training camp.
He also said his camp has earlier watched recorded bouts to study the Filipino's boxing style.
Although awed by Donaire, Montiel insists he will never let his World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight titles get captured.
He added he will follow a strategy to boost his chances to knock Donaire out. — Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News, Las Vegas, Nevada
