MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Adamson University and University of Santo Tomas (UST) geared up for their finals rematch this weekend by posting contrasting victories in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Falcons pulled off an abbreviated 9-0 win over a hapless Ateneo de Manila University squad, while the Tigresses needed extra innings before eventually edging University of the East (UE), 2-1.
Both teams are unbeaten in three games heading into their rematch on Saturday at 1 p.m.
After eight scoreless innings, the Lady Warriors drew first blood when Lourdes Blanco sent Mary Joy Catacutan home.
The Tigresses leveled at the bottom of the ninth, as Tin Palma sent Lealyn Guevarra home for a 1-1 count.
Sheila Perales then scored the winning run off a Janah Hernandez RBI to help the Tigresses stay unscathed.
UE dropped to 1-3, while Ateneo remained at the bottom of the league standings with a 0-4 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, National University (NU) ended a two-game slide following a 9-2 victory over De La Salle University.
In Wednesday's baseball action, defending champion Ateneo scored its second straight abbriviated win, an 11-0 rout of NU.
La Salle also improved to 2-0 following a 13-7 romp of UST, while Adamson entered the win column with an 8-5 decision of University of the Philippines.
The Falcons tied the Growling Tigers at 1-1, while the Bulldogs and the Fighting Maroons fell at 0-2.
