Quezon City moved up to a 3-way tie at the top spot after claiming its second win at the expense of visiting Imus Bandera, 84-75, Tuesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup at the JCSGO Seed Gym.
The Capitals started out hot and maintained their momentum to easily demolish the Bandera to join Navotas and Batangas at the top of the heap.
Jay Collado led the way for the home team with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Peejay Baraua posted 15 markers while Jomar Santos and Joco Tayongytong finished with 10 points each.
“Naging key namin kanina 'yung depensa namin,” said Collado, who shot 7 of 10 from the field.
The Capitals opened up with a 27-9 blitz in the first quarter and from there controlled the pace of the rest of the match.
Chestern Melencio got 18 points for Imus, University of Santo Tomas product Jamil Sheriff tallied 12, while Jessie Saitanan and Raniel Diwa scored 10 each for the Bandera, who absorbed their second loss in as many games to join Bataan.
In the first game, Muntinlupa claimed its second straight victory in an 89-76 blowout of the listless Caloocan Supremos.
The Cagers rode a torrid second-quarter shooting to turn a close 23-20 first-quarter lead to 47-36 advantage at halftime. The Supremos never got a chance to cut their deficit to single digit.
Dave Moralde and Chito Jaime led Muntinlupa with 23 points each. Felix Apreku had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Allan Mangahas scored 10 and dished out 12 assists for the Cagers, who moved to solo fourth spot.
Caloocan dropped its third game in as many outings.
Ralph Salcedo had 18 points while Ronald Roy and James Mangahas had 13 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Supremos.
