It was a pleasure for former UAAP star Thirdy Ravena to be playing with the likes of former NBA players Andray Blatche and Renaldo Balkman when they suited up for Mighty Sports in the recent Dubai International Basketball Championship.

Mighty Sports swept the competition including a victory over Al-Riyadi of Lebanon to become the first non-Middle Eastern team to win the title.

Ravena said Blatche and Balkman are already veterans of the game and all the rookies like him had to do is to follow the lead.

“Wala ka nang irereklamo o gagawin kundi follow their lead to know what it’s like,” said Ravena during Mighty Sports’ thanksgiving event in Makati.

“They have been in such situations all their lives, even tougher pa nga. We just kind of ride their wings and make sure you do it really well.”

Ravena said he will now turn his focus on Gilas Pilipinas, whose practices for the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers have begun.

“Right now it’s Gilas Pilipinas. We have the window coming up, we have 2 weeks to prepare for that. We started practice kanina. Kahit sigurado na ang slot namin sa Philippines, hindi p’wedeng mediocre ang ipapakita namin. We try our best to prepare,” he said.

Regarding the PBA Draft, Ravena said he’ll have to wait for the league’s ruling before he decides if he will join this year’s draft.

Ravena skipped the draft last year after being the consensus No. 1 pick for the 2019 PBA Draft and is under threat of being banned from the league if he forgoes the process for the second time.

“Right now may ruling kasi as things are going on, tignan muna natin kung anong mangyayari. Hopefully it will work out for the better,” he said.
