MANILA, Philippines – The Alaska Aces need to play with more discipline and display better focus, according to forward Vic Manuel, after they squandered a 17-point lead against Ginebra and lost 81-85 to the Gin Kings,

The Aces were in control until the third quarter, when Ginebra rattled them with a 25-1 run that turned what was once a 41-29 Alaska lead into a 62-54 advantage for the Gin Kings heading into the final quarter.

Alaska was still able to threaten late in the game, with JVee Casio's three-point shooting helping them come to within three points, but Ginebra was able to hold on and thus force a knockout game for a spot in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

"'Di naming na-ingatan 'yung bola. Noong nagkaroon kami ng turnovers, nagkaroon na rin sila ng momentum hanggang makalamang sila," said Manuel.

Turnovers have been a sore spot for the Aces in the Philippine Cup. They average 21.36 miscues per game, the second-worst mark in the league. They also allow teams to score 21 points per game off their turnovers.

Against Ginebra, they threw the ball away 17 times, leading to 22 points for the Gin Kings.

Several of their errors came in the worst possible times. For instance, LA Tenorio was able to steal the ball off an errant pass from Kevin Racal and score in transition for a 57-53 lead late in the third frame.

"Kailangan siguro, next game mas focused, at saka 'yung discipline namin, i-limit namin 'yung turnovers," said Manuel. "'Yun siguro ang magpapanalo sa amin."

However, Manuel knows it will be easier said than done, as the Gin Kings were able to force the Aces to go away from what was working for them.

"Ginebra ang kalaban namin," said Manuel. "'Yung crowd, doon sila nabubuhay."

Still, he vowed that he and the rest of the Aces will give it all they got as they try to stay on track for a third straight trip to the All-Filipino Finals.

"Do-or-die game na 'yan. Wala ng bukas, ibibigay na lahat 'yan," he said.
