MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Adamson University overwhelmed De La Salle University, 9-3, in just five innings, while University of Santo Tomas (UST) edged University of the Philippines (UP), 4-3, to share the early lead in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Jeanette Rusia and Khrisha Cantor each scored a homerun for the Lady Falcons, who needed a strong start this time to frustrate the Lady Batters.

Adamson's comfortable win over La Salle was in contrast to their opening game against National University (NU). In that game, the Lady Falcons leaned on two RBIs by senior Riezel Calumbres in the bottom seventh to earn a 2-1 triumph against the Lady Bulldogs.

Rusia slammed a two-run homer to give the Lady Falcons a 4-0 lead in the first inning, while Cantor nailed another in the fifth for a 9-1 advantage.

Later, University of the East rediscovered its winning ways with a 7-2 romp of Ateneo de Manila University. The Lady Warriors joined the Lady Maroons in fourth spot at 2-1.

In last Sunday's opening day action in baseball, Ateneo set in motion its title defense with an abbreviated 13-3 win over UP.

La Salle prevailed over Adamson, 3-2, while UST outlasted NU, 9-8.
