Paolo Hubalde came away with the game-winning split from the free-throw line with 5 seconds left, as Valenzuela Classic escaped with a 79-78 win over the Caloocan Supremos at Caloocan Sports Complex late Thursday night in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Anta Rajah Cup.

With just 12 seconds left following the heavily contested layup of Supremos guard Mar Villahermosa that knotted the game at 78-all, Caloocan player Don Ochea made a crucial blunder in the backcourt when he fouled Hubalde after receiving the inbound pass.

With the partisan crowd jeering, Hubalde bricked his first attempt before calmly sinking the next foul shot to put the Classic up.

With Caloocan exhausting all of its timeouts, Villahermosa was forced to throw a long prayer that just bounced off the board as Valenzuela walked away with the victory that erased its painful 73-65 loss to the Batangas Tanduay Athletics last Saturday.

Hubalde and Adrian Celada finished with 15 points each while Mark Andaya scored 11 for Valenzuela, which handed Caloocan its second loss in as many games.

Villahermosa and James Mangahas posted 11 points each for Caloocan.

Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa Cagers barged in the win column after a scorching fourth quarter to silence the Parañaque Patriots, 67-60, to tie its victim at 1-1 record.

Pari Llagas and Dave Moraled led Muntinlupa with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Allan Mangahas chipped in with 15.
