NCAA: Lady Altas shock reigning champion Lady Chiefs in finals opener

University of Perpetual Help has defeated Arellano University 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 in Game 1 of the NCAA women's volleyball finals in San Juan on Friday.

Necelle Mae Gual finished with 23 excellent sets to open the best-of-3 series at FilOil Flying V Centre, putting the Lady Altas in position to win the championship.

Game 2 is on February 8 at the same venue.

Graduating hitter Cindy Imbo tallied 16 attacks in an 18-point outing, while adding 16 excellent receptions for the Lady Altas.

Jhona Rosal contributed 12 points, 10 coming off attacks, while Hannah Suico and Shyra Umandal each had 10 points for Perpetual, which landed 49 kill points.
