MANILA, Philippines -- De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) has advanced to the finals of the NCAA Season 94 men's volleyball tournament after sweeping Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) in their step-ladder semifinal match on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Blazers leaned on their veteran smarts to overwhelm the young Generals, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20, in just an hour and 30 minutes.
With the victory, the Blazers set up a best-of-3 showdown against defending champion University of Perpetual Help. The Altas advanced to the championship round outright after winning all nine of their elimination round assignments.
"Lamang nga kami sa experience kasi mas marami kaming beterano kaya kailangan namin magstep up 'yung mga beterano namin," CSB coach Arnold Laniog said.
It was a straightforward victory for the Blazers, who dismissed a rookie-laden EAC squad. Ruvince Abrot, still recovering from a knee injury, had 12 points, while Francis Basilan and Joshua De Sequera each had 9 markers.
EAC skipper Joshua Mina had 13 points, while Joshua Ramilo added 10 points. But the Generals struggled on offense, tallying just 31 kills, and gave away the same number of points through their unforced errors.
Game 1 of the men's finals between CSB and Perpetual Help is on Friday at the San Juan venue.
