MANILA, Philippines – Veteran guard Paul Sanga knew the importance of their game against Muntinlupa-Angelis Resort to their chances of making the playoffs in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season.

This was the reason he tried to take over right at the beginning of their game. Unfortunately for Sanga and Caloocan-Victory Liner, his shots were not falling: the guard was a dismal 1-of-9 from the field at the half.

He went on to miss five more attempts, before eventually finding his rhythm and willing Caloocan to victory.

Sanga, at the time 1-of-14 from the field, sank a three-pointer with 3:58 to go in the game. He added another triple and then two charities, before teammate Cedric Labing-isa converted the go-ahead free throws.

The 10 unanswered points turned what had been a 9-point deficit into a 63-62 advantage for the Supremos.

They held on for the win after both teams missed their attempts in the final 2:03 of the game, giving Caloocan the slim triumph on Monday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

"As a veteran and as a shooter, I have to keep on shooting kahit na malas ako, kailangan ko talagang gawin 'yung role ko dito sa team," said the 32-year-old swingman.

Sanga, who played collegiate ball for Far Eastern University, finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Caloocan improved its record to 15-13, still at the 9th spot in the Northern Division but now just half-a-game behind Pasay (15-12) for the 8th seed.

"Sabi ko sa team, ipanalo namin 'yung last three games namin para hindi na namin isipin 'yung kung anong mangyayari sa Pasay," Sanga said.

In other games, Iloilo squeaked out a 67-63 victory over Biñan-Luxxe White, while Basilan-Jumbo Plastic cruised to its fourth-straight win after beating Rizal-Xentro Mall, 103-85.
