It looks like John Riel Casimero will get the title unification bout he had been hoping for.
The Filipino world bantamweight champion is set to battle Japan’s IBF and WBA bantamweight king Naoya Inoue, on April 25 in Las Vegas, according to a report by Boxing Scene.
An official announcement of the title unification match will be made in the coming weeks, according to the report.
Casimero called out Inoue after making short work of Zolene Tete back in November to claim the World Boxing Organization crown.
Inoue immediately responded, paving the way for negotiations.
If it pushes through, it will be Inoue’s first fight under Top Rank.
The venue has not been decided yet, but the bout could be at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
MP Promotions-backed Casimero, a native of Leyte, is a three-division world champion who used to hold the IBF flyweight and IBF/WBO light-flyweight titles.
The unbeaten Inoue, on the other hand, is coming off a tough decision win over Nonito Donaire Jr. in November.
