June Mar Fajardo scored 34 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, seldom-used Brian Heruela added 17 points and 6 steals in his best game of the young season, and San Miguel Beer shook loose from GlobalPort in the fourth quarter to win 107-93 in the PBA Philippine Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
GlobalPort engaged the defending champions in a close game until midway through the fourth when San Miguel got into a rhythm.
Trailing 83-80, the Beermen went on a 21-2 run in a span of nearly 5 minutes to secure its fifth win in a row and remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
And they did it without top playmaker Alex Cabagnot, who was sidelined because of plantar fasciitis. He is expected to be out at least 3 weeks.
"We will do our best na pagalingin agad. We're not in a hurry to get him back but we need him 100%," San Miguel coach Leo Austria said.
Taking Cabagnot's place in the starting unit was Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, who registered 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
But it was Heruela, who came up big when GlobalPort threatened in the fourth, where he scored 9 of his total points.
"I'm so happy tonight because of my players, especially Heruela. Talagang inagaw niya ang show kay Marc (Lassiter) at Arwind," Austria said.
"And of course Ganuelas, who's playing really well in terms of defense and providing a lot of energy, which we need.
"The bench is stepping up and we need this especially with Alex Cabagnot still on the sidelines."
Arwind Santos contributed 17 points, 4 3-pointers, 10 rebounds and 6 assists, while Marcio Lassiter chipped in 17 points, too.
Stanley Pringle scored 23 points to lead GlobalPort, which tied 5 other teams with a 2-3 record.
