MANILA, Philippines – The UAAP, together with ABS-CBN S+A, will be adopting a new program format for each game day of the Season 82 collegiate volleyball tournament.
Unlike in previous seasons that saw the men's games played in the morning while the women's contests were played in the afternoon, the day will now feature an alternating men's-women's schedule.
The men's games will now be played at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., while the women's games are set at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
UAAP president Em Fernandez, from host school Ateneo de Manila University, said it is about time that the men's teams get the same exposure as the women's.
"With the success of the men's volleyball team in the last Southeast Asian Games, it is about time that we put men's volleyball side by side with women's volleyball," he stressed.
The Philippine men's national volleyball team, a squad that featured several UAAP standouts and coached by National University's Dante Alinsunurin, won silver in the 30th SEA Games last December.
It was the country's first medal in the sport since 2005.
For the first round, the teams facing off in the men's side will also be the same pairing in the women's game.
