MANILA – University of Perpetual Help swept the elimination round of the juniors' and men's divisions of the NCAA Season 94 volleyball tournament on Thursday.
This, after trouncing their opponents from Jose Rizal University to claim outright Finals spots.
The Altas smashed the Heavy Bombers, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13, while the Junior Altas also dismissed the Light Bombers, 25-13, 25-17, 25-11, as both squads completed a nine-game sweep of the elimination round.
Both Perpetual teams are now through to the best-of-3 Finals of their respective divisions, which starts on February 1.
Ronniel Rosales led the Altas with 14 points, while last year's rookie-MVP, Joebert Almodiel, scattered 12 points. Perpetual Help is now two wins away from a second straight men's title and 12th overall.
Meanwhile, the stepladder semifinals start on Tuesday, with No. 4 Emilio Aguinaldo College (5-4), No. 3 Arellano (7-2), and No. 2 College of St. Benilde (8-1) all eyeing a ticket to the Finals against the Altas.
The Junior Altas were led by Noel Kampton, who had 12 points in their win. Perpetual's junior team is now just two wins away from a fifth straight title, and 11th high school championship overall.
Letran, Lyceum, and EAC battle it out in the step-ladder semis to determine Perpetual's challenger.
In the women's division, Perpetual Help turned back Jose Rizal University, 25-13, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14, to claim the last ticket to the Final Four with a 6-3 record.
The Lady Altas will face off against College of St. Benilde in the Final 4.
Defending champion and second-seed Arellano, meanwhile, takes on San Beda in the other semifinal match-up.
Both the Lady Blazers and the Lady Chiefs own a twice-to-beat edge in the Final 4.
