San Beda University denied two-time defending champion Arellano University an outright finals berth, after the Lady Red Spikers beat the Lady Chiefs 16-25, 25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 16-14 in San Juan on Tuesday to snap the Lady Chiefs’ eight-game winning streak in NCAA women’s volleyball.

The Lady Red Spikers stopped the Lady Chiefs right on their tracks at FilOil Flying V Centre to close the elimination round with an 8-1 record, identical to Arellano’s and College of Saint Benilde’s.

San Beda’s win put the semifinals in the usual final-4 format, with the Lady Blazers and the Lady Chiefs taking the top two seeds respectively and the accompanying twice-to-beat incentive.

The Lady Red Spikers will take on the Lady Chiefs in the final-4 starting Tuesday, January 22.

Saint Benilde, which by virtue of a superior quotient took the top seed, will still have to wait for its semis opponent, a berth to be disputed by University of Perpetual Help (5-3) and Jose Rizal University (4-4) on Thursday, January 17.
