MANILA, Philippines – Dave Ildefonso will leave National University (NU) after two years of playing with the Bulldogs, ABS-CBN Sports reported.
Ildefonso served as the main man of NU in Seasons 81 and 82, but the Bulldogs experienced little success on the court and missed the Final 4 in both of his years there.
After weeks of speculation regarding Ildefonso's future, new NU coach Goldwin Monteverde confirmed to ABS-CBN Sports that the forward was leaving the program and is "most probably" headed back to Ateneo de Manila University.
Ildefonso was part of the Ateneo Blue Eaglets team that won the UAAP Season 80 juniors crown, along with Kai Sotto and SJ Belangel.
Ildefonso, who averaged 17.14 points and 5.93 rebounds in Season 82, will have to sit out a year before playing for the Blue Eagles.
ABS-CBN Sports also reported that the family patriarch, Danny Ildefonso, is no longer part of the NU coaching staff. He had served as an assistant to Jamike Jarin for the past three years.
Shaun Ildefonso, Dave's older brother, is staying with NU for his final collegiate season.
