MANILA, Philippines—A week into the latest chapter of his basketball career, Terrence Romeo is still adjusting to his new reality as a San Miguel Beerman. And he is enjoying every second of it.

Romeo's turbulent stint with TNT KaTropa abruptly ended in December, when the team officially placed him on the trading block midway through the month. He was soon acquired by San Miguel, the defending Philippine Cup champions, which already boasts of the most potent starting five in the league.

The flashy guard acknowledged he is still in the process of learning how San Miguel plays. after all, he has only been practicing with them for a week, and they spent a chunk of that time in a team-building seminar.

"Iniisip ko pa kung paano ako makakatulong sa team," he said during the PBA Media Day at Solaire on Thursday.

There is no doubting Romeo's talent or his scoring ability, but there are plenty of questions about what his role will be in a loaded San Miguel team that already features the most dominant player in the league in June Mar Fajardo. Moreover, their backcourt is as impressive as their frontline, with Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot, and Marcio Lassiter leading the way.

Romeo is not worried about what his role will be, however.

"Wala namang sinabi si coach Leo (Austria) na role na dapat gawin," he revealed.

"Kailangan ko lang laruin 'yung right basketball. Ganoon lang naman 'yun eh, kung paano ko mapapadali 'yung trabaho ng mga teammates ko, ganoon din 'yung trabaho ko."

Indeed, rather than dwell on the questions of how he fits in San Miguel, how he will play alongside Fajardo, or how he will have to change his game, Romeo would much rather focus on how he is enjoying being a part of the Beermen.

"Sobrang saya, kasi dito walang ano eh, basta hindi mo siya mako-compare sa ibang team," he said.

"Lahat ng players sobrang open-minded, talagang walang issue, walang lahat. Family 'yung treatment.

"Ramdam ko 'yung welcome nila sa akin, so talagang gusto ko na matulungan sila."

The questions of how Romeo will fare as a Beerman will be answered on Friday, when San Miguel opens its bid for a fifth straight all-Filipino crown against Columbian Dyip at Cuneta Astrodome.
