But Pacman's coach believes Khan deserves rematch
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing coach Freddie Roach maintained that junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson is a good match for Manny Pacquiao even as his other fighter, Amir Khan, is pursuing a rematch against Peterson.
Roach stressed that he supports Khan, who recently lost his WBA and IBF junior welterweight titles to Peterson.
However, he said Peterson could be a good match for Pacquiao, stylistically speaking.
“I still think that Amir deserves a rematch first, but obviously, Lamont Peterson would be a good fight for Manny also,” Roach said in Ringtv.com.
Roach, a multi-awarded boxing trainer, admitted that he has no idea on Pacquiao’s preference for his next opponent.
“Arum told me that he was going to head over to the Philippines to talk to Manny about his next opponent,” said Roach.
“But, which way they'll go, I have no idea. One thing is that I don't negotiate the fights. I just get them ready for the guys that they give me,” he added.
Arum is proposing 4 fight options for Pacquiao, namely against Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Timothy Bradley and Peterson.
Fans are hoping that Pacquiao may be available to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5.
However, Arum said that a Pacquiao-Mayweather can only be arranged around end of May or November.
