MANILA, Philippines – Global FC has hired Scottish manager Brian Reid as its new head coach, the United Football League (UFL) team announced recently.

Reid, a former player for the Rangers of the Scottish Premier League, was previously the manager of Ayr United.

“His experience will give the club a lot of confidence,” Global boss Dan Palami said in the club’s website.

Reid will replace Edwin Cabalida, who took a leave from the squad last year. Palami served as caretaker manager for Global, who sreached the finals of the UFL Cup where they fell to Stallions FC.

Reid’s hiring was done in an effort to “enhance (Global’s) status as a premier Filipino football club.”

The Scot’s first game in charge will possibly come during the first round of the Smart Club Championships on January 13, wherein Global will play Nomads at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Reid will also be in charge of Global’s campaign in the 2013 AFC President’s Cup as well as their title-retention bid in the United Football League.
