MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals’ celebrated winger Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong added another trophy to his case after being named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of 2012.
Caligdong, who was instrumental in the Azkals’ run to the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-finals last December, was one of seven awardees commended by President Benigno Aquino III during awarding ceremonies at Malacanang on Wednesday.
Caligdong was lauded not only for his exploits with the national team but also for his efforts to teach football to Filipino youth, having conducted several football clinics in his hometown.
The other awardees were rapper apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, congresswoman Emmeline Aglipay, veterinarian Dr. Waren Baticados, therapist Abelardo Apollo David, Jr., blogger Ivan Henares and broadcaster Jiggy Manicad. -- Report from Karen Davila, ABS-CBN News
