MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Robert Garcia thinks Manny Pacquiao would be an ideal opponent for his fighter, Marcos Maidana, stylistically and financially.
“If we had the opportunity to choose the next opponent [of Maidana], I would say Pacquiao,” said Garcia in Boxing Scene.
Garcia, however, admitted that they have to settle a lot of issues before they can arrange a match between the Filipino swarmer and the Argentine brawler.
“But there are many things in the middle that would hinder that -- such as promoters, manager, television networks, and perhaps that's why we can't do too much -- but that's the fight I'd like for Chino,” he said.
For one, Maidana fights under Al Haymon, who also handles the career of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao is also deep in negotiations with Floyd Mayweather Jr., who defeated Maidana via unanimous decision last September.
Garcia said that if they don’t get Pacquiao, they can fight other top boxers in the welterweight division.
“There are other names, such as Amir Khan, Kell Brook... there are interesting fights, like Danny Garcia if he wants to climb to welterweight, the rematch with Adrien Broner... so there are options. So let's see what happens,” said Garcia.
