MANILA, Philippines – Jose Rizal University (JRU) turned back San Sebastian College in straight sets to stay in the hunt for a spot in the Final 4 of the NCAA Season 94 women's volleyball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Dolly Grace Verzosa submitted a solid effort as the Lady Bombers hacked out a 25-18, 25-20, 26-24 triumph over the Lady Stags.

Verzosa scored 17 points, 16 on kills, as JRU improved to 4-3 and took a step towards making it to the magic four.

The Lady Stags suffered their second loss for a 4-2 slate, and fell to fourth place. They are now just half a game ahead of the No. 5 Perpetual Help Lady Altas and the No. 6 Lady Bombers.

JRU is hoping to make it back to the Final 4 for the second year in a row after a breakthrough appearance last season, thanks to MVP Shola Alvarez.

However, they need to hurdle their last two assignments in De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (4-1) and University of Perpetual Help on January 17 to make it back to the semifinals.

Karen Cay Montojo provided a scoring punch for JRU with 14 points, all on spikes.

In the men's division, San Sebastian defeated JRU, 25-22, 27-25, 25-15, to hike its mark to 3-3.

In the juniors' division, San Sebastian also dropped JRU, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21, to claim its second triumph against four setbacks.
