The Philippine men's national football team arrived in Dubai on Thursday ahead of the AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, which begins on Saturday.
The Azkals, making their historic debut in the continental competition, begin their campaign in Group C against 2015 runner-up South Korea at Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai on Sunday.
They face China next on Thursday at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, before concluding the preliminaries against Kyrgyzstan at Rashid Stadium in Dubai on January 16.
“Our journey to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup is a dream realized,” Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta Jr. said in an article on the official website of the sport's national governing body.
“The team’s participation in this tournament is testament to the massive strides the Philippine football community has done in recent years.”
The team recently trained in Doha, where the Filipinos lost to Vietnam 4-2 in a tuneup on New Year’s Eve.
