Justin Brownlee fired 29 points for Tanduay Alab Pilipinas in a 90-79 domination of Westports Malaysia Dragons in a superb ASEAN Basketball League debut on Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Brownlee, who helped Ginebra win 2 straight Governors' Cup titles in the PBA, also collected 7 rebounds to help Alab start 2018 on a high note with its first win streak.
Renaldo Balkman was also impressive in his ABL debut, adding 17 points for Alab which how has a 2-3 win-loss record.
It was a remarkable start for the new imports who took over from Ivan Johnson and Reggie Okosa.
The Philippine-based team smothered Westsports to just 13 points in the opening quarter to build a 10-point advantage.
In the middle quarters, the Dragons asserted its might from the perimeter but Brownlee began making his presence felt with his superb outside shooting while Balkman took care of the paint.
In the fourth quarter, they shut down the Dragons again before completing an 11-point win.
Josh Urbiztondo had 13 points for Alab, which also got 10 from Rob Celiz.
They ruined Joshua Munzon’s return to Westsports, who fell to a 1-3 record.
The Filipino-American, who replaced Reil Cervantes, topped the Dragons with 21 points.
