Wesley So to compete in Dutch Tata Steel

MANILA – Twenty-eighth ranked Grandmaster (GM) Wesley Barbasa So of the Philippines will be competing in the 76th edition of the Dutch tournament Tata Steel from January 10 to 26.

According to National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. and Secretary-General Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr., So will be flying to Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands for the annual competition.

But before the main tournament commences, the grandmasters of the A-group first will play one round in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and another round in the High Tech Campus Eindhoven.

Competing in the event are players with a high average coefficient of 2744 ELO points.

The Tata Steel tournament was formerly known as the Corus tournament. Last year's edition was won by GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway (ELO 2872).
