MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University did not look far for a replacement for Aldin Ayo.
Louie Gonzalez, who served as Ayo's chief assistant for the past three years, has been tapped as the new head coach of the Green Archers, according to reports.
Archers' Clubhouse bared that Gonzalez was appointed as head coach by Danding Cojuangco himself during a meeting at the San Miguel Corp. headquarters last Friday.
Gonzalez was Ayo's first lieutenant when he steered Letran to the NCAA Season 91 title, and went with him when Ayo accepted the head coaching position in La Salle.
Together, they would go on to lead the Green Archers to the UAAP Season 79 title, and to a runner-up finish in Season 80.
ABS-CBN News sought confirmation from De La Salle, but the university has yet to respond as of posting time.
Ayo, meanwhile, will reportedly take the head coaching job at University of Santo Tomas, ending months of speculation that began while the Season 80 tournament was still ongoing.
Joining Gonzalez in the La Salle bench are veterans Siot Tanquingcen and Glenn Capacio, as well as Anton Altamirano.
