LONDON -- Joann Rolison was just five years old when she learned karate from her British dad.
Her father, John, is very much concerned for the safety of her daughter because of the worsening street violence involving the youth in London.
He is a retired bomb disposal expert in the Hong Kong police whose wife, Leony, is a Pinay from Quezon City.
In her tender age of 14 years old, Joann is world kickboxing champion in her division, and she recently won the European Taekwondo Championships in Italy.
She received two gold medals under the 42-kilogram sparring category and team power event.
Now a second dan black belt, Joann is member of the Master Wolf's Taekwondo Academies in Margate, Kent.
She is now in her sophomore year at the Grammar School.
Joann is also doing well in academics, and has been active in other sports activities.
With her rare skills in martial arts, Joann admits no one has dared to mess around with her.
Despite having been raised in the United Kingdom, and behind the quiet and serious personality, Joann exudes some semblance of Filipino character.
She likes Filipino food and its warm people. -- Danny Buenafe, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau chief
