ROME – A Filipino sculptor sought the help of the Philippine embassy in Rome to request an appointment with United States President Barack Obama.

Sculptor Tomas Concepcion made a fine art bronze bust image of Obama—a gift which he hopes to personally give the US president.

Concepcion confessed to being inspired by Obama whom he considers as his idol.
“Well this man, Barack Obama inspires me with his charm, his charisma, with his vision of a new order. With his new political and social order,” said Concepcion.

Obama’s bust image was completed in nearly a month’s time.

“The original is of course is in clay, then we make a mold clay original, and we make from the mold a wax copy of the original and the whole process of casting it in bronze,” Concepcion explained the process.

Concepcion believes that President Obama will make a difference not only in politics.

The Philippine embassy in Rome is proud of Concepcion’s work.

“Proud ako kasi si Mr. Concepcion ay isa sa pinakamagaling nating iskultor based dito sa Italy. Napakaganda ng bronze bust na kanyang ginawa,” said Minister and Consul General Danilo Ibayan.

Ibayan sent Concepcion’s request to the Department of Foreign Affairs to schedule an appointment where the sculptor could hand over his present to Obama in the US.
