MANILA - A recruitment agency in Manila has been ordered to halt recruitment operations after Filipino truck drivers it sent to Europe were found to be "working and living in substandard conditions."

In a statement Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration issued the order against United Primover Enterprise Inc and its principal, HBT Transport Internationale in Poland, which recruited the drivers.

It said the agency will be prevented from further recruiting migrant workers until the issue is resolved.

The DFA said it continues to work with authorities in Denmark, Germany, and Poland to "uphold the rights of the Filipino truck drivers."

Last month, Danish authorities rescued 22 Filipino truck drivers from "deplorable working conditions" in the southern town of Padborg, Denmark.
