MANILA—An official of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) who was hurt in a bus accident in Mount Sinai, Egypt is now safe, a bishop said Friday.

CBPC secretary general, Fr. Marvin Mejia, has been discharged from the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital, said Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David.

The Catholic leader said he was informed of Mejia's condition through Fr. Jan Limchua, who works at the Apostolic Nunciature in Cairo.

"I spoke with Fr. Marvin thrice today. He is now fine and out of danger. He’s discharged and resting at a hotel," David said, quoting Limchua.

The Philippine Embassy in Cairo has also provided assistance to Mejia and other Filipino victims.

The group was touring Egypt when their bus met an accident Tuesday night following a visit of the Saint Catherine's Monastery in Mount Sinai.
