A Filipino-American man tragically lost his life in an effort to save his dog in Chicago.
Michael Fernandez, 29, jumped into the Lincoln Park Lagoon on Saturday night after seeing his dog struggling to stay afloat.
According to reports, after seeing Fernandez jump in, his girlfriend also dove into the lagoon in an effort to rescue him. However, both the dog and the girlfriend resurfaced while Fernandez was nowhere to be found.
After a 19-hour search, 10 divers were able to pull out his body from the water. Reports state that murky water from the lagoon made it difficult to locate him.
Fernandez was a limo driver and a bodybuilder. A GoFundMe page has been created to help his family and friends raise funds for a memorial.
