MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it will give P5,000 each to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were affected by the 36-hour closure of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport's main runway.
In a statement Tuesday, the DFA said it will start giving the financial aid starting Wednesday afternoon until Friday afternoon.
The DFA said OFWs still in the country may claim the assistance at NAIA Terminals 1, 2, and 3, and at the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs in Roxas Boulevard.
Migrant workers who would like to claim the monetary aid are required to present their airline ticket showing original date of departure, the reissued ticket showing new date of departure, employment contract, and overseas employment certificate.
“We are releasing a reasonable amount from our Assistance to Nationals Fund as we understand that a number of our kababayan remain stranded and do not have funds to meet their daily needs,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said.
The DFA added that its embassies are ready to "issue certifications and make representations with foreign employers if needed to explain the delay in the arrival of their Filipino employees."
