MANILA - (UPDATE) The three retired Filipino teachers who were earlier reported missing in China finally arrived in the Philippines late Sunday evening.

Pacita de Guzman, 77, Erlinda Varela Guce, 72, and Josefina Varela Baysic, 70, were supposed to return to Manila last August 10 after flying from New York.

However, their China Eastern Airlines connecting flight in Shanghai was canceled due to a typhoon that lashed China.

De Guzman's daughter, Imelda Javier, said the Chinese airline sent an email confirming that the three Filipino senior citizens were returning to Manila Sunday night.

Javier said they still don't know what happened during the 8 days that her mother and the 2 other Filipinos were stranded in China.
