MANILA - US President Donald Trump is considering to reassign US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim as the US top envoy to Indonesia.

"Today, President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key positions in his Administration: Sung Y. Kim of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Indonesia," the White House said in a statement released on its website.

The statement came after the US Embassy in Manila denied Wednesday reports that a US state department deputy assistant secretary has been named as the next American envoy to the Philippines.

Former US President Barack Obama nominated the Korean-born Kim as the US' top envoy to the Philippines on May 19, 2016.

Kim, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, served as US Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 2011 to 2014, Special Envoy for the Six Party Talks with the rank of Ambassador from 2008 to 2011, and Director of the Office of Korean Affairs in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs from 2006 to 2008.
