MANILA - The Kuwaiti police officer tagged in the sexual assault of a Filipina worker in the Gulf state has been charged with rape, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.
The DFA said the suspect, earlier identified as Kuwaiti police officer Fayed Naser Hamad Alajmy, is facing a rape charge punishable by death or life imprisonment under Kuwait Penal Law No. 16/1960.
The Kuwaiti government has also committed to exert "all efforts for the speedy arrest of the suspect."
The Filipina was working for her employer in Kuwait, alongside 3 other Filipino household service workers, including a relative.
The Philippine Embassy assured it would continue to provide legal aid and other assistance to the victim.
