MANILA (UPDATE) - The world's tallest skyscraper on Wednesday night lit up with colors of the Philippine flag as the country celebrates its 121st independence from the Spanish rule.
A crowd of Filipinos erupted in cheers when Dubai's 160-storey Burj Khalifa was bathed in red, white and blue lights, accentuated by 3 stars and the sun.
Some overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) traveled to Dubai to witness the brief light show on the iconic tower.
"We are very happy... na maipakita rin sa ibang nationality how we are united and how we are patriotic to our country," Jenny Rivera said.
The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates organized the event.
Filipina worker Anne Gutierrez said the display was a bit short but was "worth the wait."
A separate laser show was also held in Dubai Festival City Mall to mark Philippines' Independence Day.
