MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday said another 21 Filipinos abroad have survived COVID-19, bringing the total tally of overseas recoveries among Filipino nationals to 849.

The agency also said the one more Filipino succumbed to the respiratory illness abroad, raising the total deaths of Filipinos overseas to 280.

“Today, the DFA confirms more recoveries than fatalities among Filipinos abroad as reported by our Foreign Service Posts,” the DFA said in a statement.

The total tally of overseas infections among Filipino nationals stood at 2,431.

“Based on the latest figures, Europe and the Middle East still have the highest number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos with over 700 cases each,” the DFA said.

“Asia and the Pacific has the fewest number of cases at 447. While the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities due to COVID-19 at 149,” it added.

To date, some 1,302 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, broken down as follows by region: 121 in the Asia Pacific, 424 in Europe, 567 in the Middle East and Africa, and 190 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases has climbed to 12,942. The tally includes 837 fatalities and 2,843 recoveries.
