A Filipino man was arrested for alleged price gouging of N95 respirator masks on April 7 in Baldwin Park, California, amid high demand because of the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Police said they received a tip that 30-year-old Johnwill Baldonado of Covina was advertising boxes of N95 masks online for the price of $300 per box.

Investigators eventually met with Baldonado and later on found that he had 21 boxes of N95 masks.

According to online retailers, the average 10-pack price of N95 masks is less than $15.

Local officials have warned against price gouging during the pandemic. They define gouging as price padding by more than 10 percent on essential items.

Baldonado was charged with a misdemeanor, eventually released, and is expected to appear in court.
