More than 70 Myanmar women donated their hair for cancer patients in the Philippines in an event hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Yangon last Saturday, Feb, 29.
The event, called "Donate Your Hair Because You Care," was organized by the Embassy in cooperation with Fancy House Academy. It was held in commemoration of the Philippine National Cancer Awareness Month.
The project started when a Myanmar woman, Ei Ei Aung, who is also a staunch advocate of support for cancer patients, sought the help of the Embassy to donate her hair to patients of Makati Medical Center.
This act inspired the Embassy to create an event for the same purpose.
Fancy House Academy provided free haircut to donors during the event, where 57 women had their hair cut. Fourteen others came with hair for donation.
The Embassy was able to collect 71 packets of at least 9 inches of hair during the event.
All collected hair went to the Cancer Center of Makati Medical Center.
