The rector of the Manila Cathedral has accompanied Archbishop Emeritus Luis Antonio Tagle in Rome as the latter took on his "new mission."

Rev. Fr. Regie Malicdem recounted in his Facebook account how Tagle delivered a "short message" to his collaborators during his first meeting with them.

"I am the prefect but I am not perfect. I came here as a student in order to learn from you, my masters and teachers," said Tagle.

Malicdem also included photos of Tagle's new office where the Manila Archbishop will take post as the new prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

"Overlooking the window of his office is the famous column of the Immaculate Conception near the Spanish steps and in one of the rooms is an image of Nuestra Señora de Guia," he said.

He added that "these will surely remind [Tagle] of the Manila Cathedral and the Archdiocese of Manila."

The Vatican announced Tagle's appointment last Dec. 8, 2019 where Pope Francis named him the head of the Vatican department responsible for the spread of the Catholic faith throughout the world through its missionary works and related activities.

Tagle succeeds Cardinal Fernando Filoni, who was appointed as the Grand Master of the order of the Holy Sepulcher.
