MANILA – The government needs to review the process of deploying workers overseas, following outrage over the death of a Filipina in Kuwait, a migrant workers' advocacy group said Monday.

Job recruiters should be more active in assisting Filipinos they helped send abroad, as in the case who Joanna Daniela Demafelis, who was missing for over a year until her body was found in a freezer in Kuwait, said Susan Ople, president of the Blas Ople Policy Center.

"Panahon na ng malawakan na pag review ng overseas employment natin," Susan Ople, president of Blas F. Ople Policy Center told DZMM.

“I’m sure hindi lang Kuwait ang naninimbang dito. Oportunidad ito para ang ating embassy at labor department na kausapin na rin ang ibang bansa,” she added

(I'm sure this applies not only to Kuwait. This is an opportunity for our embassies and the labor department to talk to other countries as well.)

Blacklisted agencies and employers, and pending cases should be identified, Ople said.

“Let’s speak with one voice. Very delicate ito. Ayaw naman nating masira ang friendship between Kuwait and the Philippines, and Philippines and other Gulf countries. Pero migrant rights are humans right eh, kaya sa aspeto na 'yun dapat din manindigan tayo," she said.

(Let's speak with one voice. This is very delicate. We don't want to damage the friendship between Kuwait and the Philippines and other Gulf countries. But migrant rights are human rights and on that aspect we have to take a stand.)
