110-year old WWII veteran gets a kiss

World War II veteran Lawrence Brooks sports a lipstick kiss on his cheek, planted by a member of the singing group Victory Belles, as he celebrates his 110th birthday at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Thursday. Brooks was born Sept. 12, 1909, and served in the predominantly African-American 91st Engineer Battalion, which was stationed in New Guinea and then the Philippines during World War II. Ninoy statue taken down

Quezon City government workers remove the statue of the late Ninoy Aquino Jr. at the corner of Quezon and Timog Avenue on Friday, after its base was damaged by road-clearing operations of the DPWH. The statue of the assassinated anti-Marcos opposition leader was also removed as part of traffic decongestion efforts, and will be relocated with the blessing of the Aquino family, according to the Quezon City government. A university student takes advantage of the Free HIV Testing Program being conducted by the local government of Quezon City as part of its HIV awareness and prevention campaign. 5.3-magnitude quake prompts evacuation

Spain lowers boom on Aussies
