Thousands of sea turtles spotted nesting near Great Barrier Reef

Thousands of green turtles are seen nesting near Raine Island, near the Great Barrier Reef, far North Queensland, Australia, in this picture taken in December 2019 and made available to Reuters on June 10, 2020. Aguinaldo Shrine readied for Independence Day

Workers ready a Philippine flag at the Emilio F. Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite on Thursday in preparation for this year’s Philippine Independence Day celebrations. In a news release on Thursday, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said that employees who will work during the regular holiday are entitled to 200 percent of their regular daily salary. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, DOLE is allowing some companies to defer the payment of holiday pay until such time that normal business operations resume. ABS-CBN News

Butchoy adds to bike riders’ woes

Bike riders brave gutter-level floods in Taft Avenue on Thursday, amid a sudden downpour brought by tropical depression Butchoy and limited operations of public transportation in Metro Manila due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Butchoy, the country’s second storm this year, was last seen 75 kilometers northwest of Daet, Camarines Sur with gustiness up to 55 kph as of 4 p.m. Thursday. ABS-CBN News
