As the enhanced community quarantine all over Luzon continues, people around the metro are forced to stay at home to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

On social media, users are posting tips on how to prevent boredom and how to be more efficient when working from home.

However, for the urban poor, these tips do not apply.

Composed mostly of those who work in the informal sector, the people who live in shanty towns do not have the luxury of space nor can they afford to miss a day of work.

In communities such as Brgy. Payatas Tres in Quezon City, a small space that is meant for a family of four can house as many as three families, with households built on top of each other. In such a cramped space, social distancing is virtually impossible. If the virus ever appeared here, the results would be catastrophic.

The residents, more often than not, rely on daily wages, having “no work, no pay” jobs. Obliged or not this means it makes them the most reliant on food packs given by the local government.
